On the fringe of the Festival de la Cité, Reboot organized a workshop on collective critical analysis of performances. The goal was to develop caring and inclusive practices while rethinking the aesthetics of tomorrow.
Reboot is structured around three central questions:
- How can we raise awareness and visibility of systemic discrimination and oppression in circus and street arts?
- How can we raise awareness within our sector regarding physical and psychological violence, and encourage people to speak out?
- What resources can be used to counter the forms of violence that have a lasting impact on artists’ careers?
The critical observation workshop at the Festival de la Cité was led by Cyrille Roussial, a teacher in critical analysis at the École Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny-sous-Bois (FR). He shared analytical tools and guided participants through the viewing of six performances on July 7th and 8th. Twelve people from various areas of the performing arts – professionals and students, as well as members of the general public – took part in this workshop. Reboot also organized discussions with the artists who performed in the shows discussed within the workshop.
