This three-day workshop on the transmission of knowledge and practices took place from Thursday May 11th to Saturday May 13th 2023. Through group discussions, experimentation, and observation, the workshop explored issues related to pedagogical transmission in the circus arts.
Daily schedule
Each morning began with a collective physical warm-up led by Laura Terrancle and Agathe Dumont, designed to prepare participants physically and mentally for the day’s reflections and analysis. There was also a presentation of the Reboot project and time for everyone to introduce themselves.
A large part of the discussions focused on the word “transmission”:
- What is transmitted, by whom and for whom?
- Les outils de transmission et les postures adoptées.
- How these tools are themselves shared
- The observation and analysis of transmission processes in training spaces
- The risks and limits of the very idea of transmission, as well as the concepts of dialogue and sharing
Lise Lerichomme led the initial phase of collective work, alternating between theoretical contributions and practical exercises to bring out a variety of questions and perspectives. These discussions led to the selection of questions to be explored and observed during the following sessions.
On the second day, after revisiting the previous day’s discussions, Agathe Dumont led a physical exercise focused on attention and energy, followed by an in-depth discussion on the transmission of knowledge and practices, drawing on the participants’ perspectives and points of view. The afternoon was devoted to observation and practical application sessions, during which each student worked in their specific discipline, particularly in the big top and the acrobatics area.
This allowed students to concretely explore the concepts previously discussed.
This allowed students to concretely explore the concepts previously discussed. On the final day, technical workshops allowed participants to continue the experimentation.
The workshop concluded with a preparation session focused on how to watch a performance, in which participants shared their expectations and collectively developed a grid with which to evaluate the performance. At the end of the day the participants went as a group to see performances at La Ferme du Buisson.
