EXERCISE DESCRIPTION
This exercise offers a way to check in with our physical state before beginning work.
- Find a comfortable position: standing, sitting, or lying down.
- You may close your eyes, keep them half-closed, or leave them open.
- Take a few breaths and try to anchor yourself in the here and now. Bring a gentle attention to your body, “scanning” it one part at a time. Begin with the feet and move up to the crown of the head.
- The aim of the exercise is to offer a moment of introspection and listening before transitioning into activity. Through the exercise you can become aware of areas of discomfort or tension, the distribution of your body weight, etc.
TAKING IT FURTHER
This exercise can be done in silence or with music, in stillness or in movement. Sensations can also be spoken aloud, naming each body part as you go.
