EXERCISE DESCRIPTION
The group stands facing a line drawn or marked on the floor. A question is asked, offering two “poles” at each end of the line. Without thinking too much, each participant spontaneously positions themself according to how they perceive themself along the line, i.e. somewhere between the two poles, or at one of the extremities. After this first placement, there is a moment in which to readjust one’s position in relation to the others. Once everyone’s positions have stabilized, participants observe their own placement, then everyone returns to the starting point. Within Reboot, this exercise has been used with prompts such as: artists / educators, performative body / sensitive body, audience member / art critic, etc. (these prompts are examples only). Afterward, the group can discuss the effects of the exercise and the issues raised.
