EXERCISE DESCRIPTION

Choose a place where you feel at ease. If practiced in the morning upon waking up, any familiar place will do. Begin by taking time to assess how you feel. State to yourself your wants and your needs during the exercise. While beginning to move (by stretching, waking up, warming up, walking, etc.), name your wants and your needs aloud (to yourself) while doing things that respond in some way to these wants and needs. Sometimes our wants and needs contradict each other. How do we reconcile them? What choices do we make? Once the exercise ends, simply observe your state, without judgment, and begin your day. The very act of noticing and naming can spark a shift in inner awareness.

TAKING IT FURTHER

The exercise can be adapted to any warm-up or similar process that involves the body.
